April Artist – Day 12 – Callista Dawson

Name: Callista Dawson
Location: San Dimas, CA

How long have you been doing art: Since I could hold a pencil

Are you a lindy hopper, and if so, how long have you been dancing? Yes, though I haven’t been to a swing joint since I got married. (5 years ago)

What inspired you to make art: I find everything inspiring. This mural was spontaneous and impromptu as a last minute addition to a proposal back drop (for a friend).

Tell me about this art: this mural was done with black and white acrylic paint.

Anything else you’d like me/the readers to know about your art? I’m a graphic designer now. I am very happy with my career path because it has allowed me much flexibility now that I am a mother.

I do freelance digital work (logos, website graphics, branding media, etc)

Here is a rotoscope animation Callista did of Jordan and Tatiana as class exercise in college.

Swing Dancing by lista04 on deviantART

Rotoscope: to trace over a movie file – frame by frame – to simulate 3 dimensional movement in a 2 dimensional media.
12 drawings per second = a lot of drawings = a lot of time = many hand cramps = craziness
Currently this animation is 390 individual drawings long – to rotoscope the entire routine would take over 1700 individual drawings.

Don’t forget to stop and enjoy the Art!
